Lise Lindstrom returns to one of her signature roles as Puccini’s icy princess in a new production of Turandot at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens. Presented by the Greek National Opera as part of the 2025 Athens Epidaurus Festival, Ms. Lindstrom’s performances take place on June 1, 5, and 8.

Built in 161 AD at the foot of the Acropolis, the Odeon is celebrated as one of the world’s most extraordinary performance venues, renowned for its exceptional acoustics and stunning open-air atmosphere. Directed by Andrei Șerban, this lavish new production promises to utilize the theater’s historic grandeur and dramatic setting to powerful effect.

Ms. Lindstrom is regarded as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of Turandot, having performed the role over 200 times to critical acclaim. The Guardian lauded her formidable presence, writing, “As Turandot, Lise Lindstrom seizes attention with the first notes of In questa reggia and then never lets go… it’s rare to find an exponent of the role who can supply the level of clarity and pressurised force she effortlessly achieves.”

She leads a distinguished cast including Brian Jagde as Calaf, Cellia Costea as Liù, and Tassos Apostolou as Timur. Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts these not-to-miss performances.
