'Die Frau ohne Schatten' at Deutsche Oper Berlin
On February 8, Lise Lindstrom returns to Deutsche Oper Berlin in her signature role as the Dyer’s Wife in Richard Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten, following her highly acclaimed performances at The Metropolitan Opera this past December.
In this psychologically rich production, director Tobias Kratzer takes an ultra-contemporary approach to Strauss’ allegorical fairy tale, shifting the focus beyond motherhood to explore themes of self-identity, relationship dynamics, and social divisions. As the final installment in Kratzer’s three-season Strauss trilogy, the staging offers a thought-provoking conclusion to his vision.
Ms. Lindstrom joins a superb cast, including David Butt Philip as the Emperor, Daniela Köhler as the Empress, Marina Prudenskaya as the Nurse, and Jordan Shanahan as Barak the Dyer, with Sir Donald Runnicles conducting.
