'Turandot' in Rome
On August 6, 8, and 10, Lise Lindstrom will reprise one of her signature roles, Puccini’s Turandot, at the 2024 Caracalla Festival in Rome.
The Caracalla Festival is an annual summer event in Rome that features a wide range of world-class performances, including opera, ballet, and concerts. Organized by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the festival is held at the historic Baths of Caracalla, a venue dating back to the 3rd century AD that originally served as a public bathing complex in ancient Rome.
Director Francesco Micheli’s new production reimagines the story through the eyes of a lonely teenager who uses the avatar of Turandot to navigate a video game, creating an immersive virtual world with stunning scenography by Studio Fuksas. The phenomenal cast also includes Luciano Ganci/Arsen Soghomonyan (August 10) as Calaf, Juliana Grigoryan as Liú, Piero Giuliacci as Emperor Altoum, Alessio Cacciamani as Timur, Haris Andrianos as Ping, Marcello Nardis as Pong, and Marco Miglietta as Pang. Donato Renzetti conducts.
