On April 30, May 4, 8, and 13, Lise Lindstrom reprises one of her signature roles as the titular character in Richard Strauss’ Elektra.

Based on the Greek legend of Electra, the modernist opera was the first of Strauss’ collaborations with the librettist Hugo von Hofmannsthal, with others later including Ariadne auf Naxos, Der Rosenkavalier, Arabella and more. The premiere of this dark and vengeful masterpiece took place in Dresden in 1909.

Barbara Frey’s production, originally seen at the company in 2014, explores the trauma of war and how it relates to the volatile familial relationships between the characters. The superb cast will also include Violeta Urmana (April 30) and Doris Soffel (May 4, 8, 13) as Klytämnestra, Allison Oakes as Chrysothemis, Jürgen Müller as Aegisth, Markus Marquardt as Orest, Tilmann Rönnebeck as Orest’s tutor, Christiane Hossfeld as Klytämnestra’s confidante, Ute Selbig as trainbearer, Sven Hjörleifsson as a younger servant, Matthias Henneberg as an older servant, Sabine Brohm as the overseer, Michal Doron as 1st Maid, Justyna Ołów as 2nd Maid, Simone Schröder as 3rd Maid, Roxana Incontrera as 4th Maid and Tuuli Takala as 5th Maid. Christoph Gedschold conducts.
