Tour of Die Frau ohne Schatten with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
From the 17-23 February, Lise will begin a tour of Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under their honourary conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who Lise has previously worked with in Strauss’ Elektra in 2015.
Lise will star as Die Färberin, a role she has previously sung at the Staatsoper in Hamburg. The Opera Magazine wrote of her performance:
“Lindstrom…impresses musically: her voice impresses with great radiance and in alternating colors it perfectly fathoms all the ups and downs of the figure. Apparently effortlessly, she succeeds in asserting herself against the enormous Straussian orchestra and implementing the German pronunciation demanded of her role with great intelligibility as well as in the broad, to revel in flowing melodies.”
The first performance of Die Frau ohne Schatten will take place on 17 February at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and will be filmed and recorded for broadcast on a later date. On Thursday 20 February, the production will take place in Konzerthaus Dortmund, before going on to give the final performance at Rotterdam’s De Doelen.
As is common with Strauss’s operas, Die Frau ohne Schatten explores feminine and maternal themes. In this opera the absence of shade in the character of Die Färberin, is a symbol of her being unable to have children and she must choose between being able to have children or lose her immortality.
This year Lise continues to focus on Wagner and Strauss, having sung Salomé for the Wiener Staatsoper last month, a role she will sing for Houston Grand Opera in April 2020 as well, before making her role debut as Isolde in concert performances of Tristan und Isolde with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra next season.
