Lise Lindstrom returns to Wiener Staatsoper to revive Salome
October for Lise Lindstrom opens with a revival of Salome at the Wiener Staatsoper. The American soprano returns to the company’s production of Strauss’s biblical tale, directed by Boleslaw Barlog and conducted by Alain Altinoglu, to star as the titular princess. She appears opposite Alan Held as Jochanaan, Jane Henschel as Herodias, and Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke as Herod.
Of her previous turn as Salome in Vienna, The Opera Critic raved “Lise Lindstrom is a Salome to be reckoned with. Here’s a soprano with a model figure and the ideal deportment to depict Strauss’ teenage princess. Not only has she the capacity to soar over the composer’s most intense orchestration with ease and beauty, but she manages to maintain seemingly endless stamina throughout – and includes a compellingly seductive dance for good measure.”
