Elektra, starring Lise Lindstrom, opens February 14 at Staatsoper Hamburg

Lise Lindstrom’s role debut as Richard Strauss’s Elektra takes place this weekend, with a run of the late August Everding’s production opening on Valentine’s Day at the Staatsoper Hamburg.

The American soprano has earned acclaim for another eponymous Straussian heroine: U-T San Diego wrote in 2012 that Lise “was born to portray the title role in Strauss’s Salome…She was completely present, absolutely committed, and dramatically and vocally compelling.” ConcertoNet added of the same performance, “Ms. Lindstrom weaves us through her twisted psychological path with such intensity that it grabs one by the throat.”

Elektra, which also features Agnes Baltsa as Clytemnestra, runs through February 24.
